What You Need to Grow Button Mushroom ?
To successfully grow button mushrooms, you need:
- Mushroom Spawn – Acts as the seed for mushroom growth.
- Compost or Growing Medium – Use a mix of compost, manure, or a specialized growing substrate.
- Cool, Dark, and Humid Environment – Maintain the right temperature and moisture levels.
- Proper Ventilation – Fresh air circulation helps prevent contamination.
Simple Steps to Grow Button Mushroom
STEP -1
Prepare the Growing Medium
- Use well-prepared compost mixed with manure.
- Spread it in a tray or container and moisten it slightly.
STEP -2
Inoculate with Mushroom Spawn
- Evenly spread the button mushroom spawn over the compost.
- Gently mix it into the top layer.
STEP -3
Incubation Period (10-14 Days)
- Cover the container with newspaper or plastic to maintain humidity.
- Keep it in a dark, warm space (20-25°C) for mycelium to spread.
STEP -4
Casing & Fruiting Stage
- Once the mycelium fully covers the compost, add a thin layer of moist soil or peat moss (called casing) to support fruiting.
- Lower the temperature to 16-18°C and ensure proper humidity by misting water regularly.
STEP -5
Harvesting
- In 2-3 weeks, small white button mushrooms will start appearing.
- Gently twist or cut them from the base when fully grown.
Common Mistakes & Tips for Success
- Overwatering – Maintain moisture but avoid excessive watering.
